Start Date: 1/1/2013 - End Date: 5/17/2013
In my particular area of Payne County, Oklahoma, I have been missing the rains of greater quality and quantity than what the majority of the county has received. I believe this drought is ongoing now for 3 years. I have yet to have a rain large enough to fill my ponds. At this point in time, my ponds are 1/4 to 1/3 full. I am going to purchase additional hay soon from SE Oklahoma just to plan for the forthcoming winter months. I think my hay meadows will probably produce more hay than last year – but at the expensive of herbicides and fertilizer. The forecast for the upcoming 3 to 6 months mimic this past year’s temps and rainfall amounts – not good. Will probably downsize cow herd again (already at 1/3 of capacity).
