The El Portal Fire on the western edge of Yosemite National Park has blackened 4,689 acres after burning two homes in Foresta and was nearly fully contained. San Francisco Chronicle (SFGate.com), Aug. 4, 2014 The El Portal fire charred 2,600 acres of thick, dry vegetation on steep hillsides on the western side of Yosemite National Park near El Portal, California since the fire began on July 26. Residents were evacuated from the communities of El Portal and Foresta and three campsites, Crane Flat, Yosemite Creek and Bridalveil Creek. A duplex in Foresta was destroyed by the blaze. The El Portal fire was burning south of the area affected by the Rim Fire, which consumed more than 250,000 acres in and adjacent to Yosemite in 2013. Fresno Bee (Calif.), July 28, 2014
