CATEGORIES:
Fire
AFFECTED AREAS:
Amador County, CA
El Dorado County, CA

Start Date: 7/25/2014 -
The Sand Fire scorched 3,800 acres of thick grasses and forest in steep river canyons in Amador and El Dorado counties. The wind-driven blaze also destroyed 13 homes and 38 outbuildings east of Sacramento since the fire began on July 25, when it is thought that a car inadvertently sparked a fire in tall grass. The fire was 75 percent contained on the afternoon of July 28, which will soon allow firefighters to permit the residents of 1,900 homes to return after being evacuated.
