Start Date: 9/5/2014 - End Date: 9/5/2014
It is another hot dry day. We are about five inches short for the year of rainfall, and 13 inches short for the year 2011 - 2014. We only had 0.55 inches of rain in August. I use over 2,000 gallons of stored rainwater just to keep my garden alive. Most gardens have already died. One thing about the drought -- it has burned up the yard. I mowed one time in August and the only thing I have to mow this month is the heavy leaf fall. I will be raking leaves before the first day of fall. Most pasture are burned up and the farmers are moving the cattle to the hay fields to keep from feeding hay this early in the year. Farmers and hunters are beginning to feed the deer to keep a healthy herd. We have a lot of doe with small fawns that need the food. CoCoRaHS Report from Station #Smithville 4.4 SSE on 9/5/2014
