CATEGORIES:

AFFECTED AREAS:
Fresno County, CA
Kern County, CA
Kings County, CA
Madera County, CA
Merced County, CA
San Joaquin County, CA
Stanislaus County, CA
Tulare County, CA

Start Date: 10/16/2014 -
The quail shooting outlook on the west side of the San Joaquin Valley was dismal because prolonged drought quashed reproduction in 2014. Very few quail and chukar chicks hatched in spring as there was no cover or humidity to aid the rearing of chicks. Most ponds, canals, lakes and streams in the Southern San Joaquin Valley Zone were dry, leaving few sites suitable for duck hunting when the waterfowl season opens on Oct. 18.
