Start Date: 12/16/2014 -
A Salinas Valley groundwater basin report recommended that pumping be shifted away from the coast to deeper underground water sources to reduce seawater intrusion worsened by drought. Agricultural interest groups opposed the recommendation. While seawater intrusion changed little during 2011-13, it seems to have penetrated further inland in 2014. The report was researched and prepared by Brown and Caldwell, a firm based in Sunnyvale. San Jose Mercury News (Calif.), Dec. 17, 2014
