Minor tweaks to water restrictions in southern Orange County, California

AFFECTED AREAS:
Orange County, CA

Start Date: 3/25/2015 -
In much of southern Orange County, water restrictions will change little, despite the State Water Resources Control Board’s updates to the statewide water regulations. Restrictions in southern Orange County were already rather strict and mostly in line with many of the SWRCB's updates, due to the adoption of more stringent restrictions during the 2014 summer. The area’s scarce groundwater supply and reliance on water imported from Northern California and the Colorado River also increased the need for water conservation. The El Toro Water District discussed amending an ordinance to prohibit irrigation during rain and for 48 hours afterward to be in line with the new state water restrictions. The district was also considering tightening each household’s water budget to promote more conservation if the Metropolitan Water District reduces supplies for its members. The Santa Margarita might adopt a higher level of drought emergency plan, given the severity and length of the drought, according to the district spokesman.
