Northern California pets are being pestered by fleas, and pet owners are buying medications to prevent or get rid of fleas, whose population boom has taken many by surprise. A registered veterinary technician said that the insect influx started in November. One pet groomer in Chico reported that 95 percent of the dogs coming in have fleas, although some of the pet owners were unaware of the issue. Some pet stores were running out of flea treatments and were having a difficult time replenishing stock, due to the high demand. Chico Enterprise-Record (Calif.), March 25, 2015
