Linn County was the most recent addition to the list of counties that had been declared to have drought emergencies. Tillamook Headlight-Herald (Ore.), Aug. 26, 2015 Through July 21, Gov. Kate Brown had declared 23 Oregon counties to be in drought emergency with the latest additions of Curry, Hood River and Union counties. The 23 counties include Baker, Coos, Crook, Curry, Deschutes, Douglas, Gilliam, Grant, Harney, Hood River, Jackson, Jefferson, Josephine, Klamath, Lake, Lane, Malheur, Morrow, Sherman, Umatilla, Union and Wasco, Wheeler. Portland Oregonian, Hillsboro Argus, Oregon Live.com; July 21, 2015 Deschutes, Grant, Jackson, Josephine, Lane, Morrow, Umatilla and Wasco counties were added to the list of Oregon counties with drought emergencies on May 22. The state drought declaration lets water users in the affected counties to request permits to drill wells or pump groundwater and make other changes to their water systems. Bend Bulletin (Ore.), May 23, 2015 Gov. Kate Brown of Oregon announced drought emergencies for Baker and Wheeler counties, due to drought, thin snowpack and low water supplies. The governor recently recognized Crook, Harney, Klamath, Lake and Malheur counties as being in drought emergencies also. Jackson and Josephine county officials intend to request relief in the near future, and the Oregon Drought Council expects local governments in the Umatilla Basin to seek drought emergency status.
