Senior irrigation rights holders on tributaries of the Yakima River were shut off, ending irrigation on 2,153 acres. This action affected 129 irrigators on Cowiche Creek and the Teanaway River with rights dating back to 1873—16 years before Washington became a state. The next water rights in line to be curtailed were granted in 1869.
