Fire prevention fee funds used to pay for tree removal in several Sierra Nevada counties in California

Dead and dying trees killed by drought and bark beetles were scheduled for removal from several Sierra Nevada counties to reduce the fire danger, said Daniel Berlant, Cal Fire spokesman. The work will be paid for with $1.75 million in funds from a fire prevention fee paid by some 37,000 California residents and business owners in the foothills and mountains to reduce the fire risk in Tuolumne, Fresno, Kern, Mariposa, Madera and Tulare counties.
