Gov. Pat McCrory of North Carolina announced a state of emergency for 25 counties in western North Carolina, due to more than 20 wildfires burning in the area. The state of emergency was in effect for Alexander, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Cherokee, Clay, Cleveland, Gaston, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Lincoln, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania, Watauga and Yancey counties.
