The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality issued a drought watch advisory for localities and public water suppliers in Greene, Louisa, Madison and Orange counties. Other areas in the watch were Culpeper, Rappahannock, Spotsylvania, Stafford, Fauquier, Prince William and Loudoun counties and the cities of Fredericksburg, Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas and Manassas Park. The advisory was meant to alert the public that drought conditions were developing and to prepare for such an event. Voluntary water conservation was encouraged.
