A temporary burn ban took effect in Fort Myers on April 11 after Gov. Rick Scott announced a state of emergency for wildfires. People must not set fire to forest, grassland, wildland, marsh, vegetation, or land in urban or rural areas, including agriculture and pile burning. Fort Myers City Manager Saeed Kazemi, also stated that it was forbidden to build a campfire, bonfire, utilize a fire pit or to burn yard trash, household garbage, refuse, or other debris within city limits during the temporary burn ban. The ban will remain in effect until extreme drought conditions ease. Fort Myers News-Press (Fla.), April 21, 2017
