North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum declared a drought emergency on June 22, allowing the State Water Commission to activate a program to offer water supply assistance for livestock producers in 26 counties in central and western parts of the state.

The governor also ordered the formation of a unified command structure involving representatives from the North Dakota Department of Emergency Services, Department of Agriculture and other state agencies to coordinate the state’s drought response.
