Many small seasonal wetlands in South Dakota dried up, due to drought, drawing fewer ducks during the spring and summer, compared to other years. With fewer ducks, hunters might find that the duck hunting season gets off to a slow start when it opens Sept. 30 in most of eastern South Dakota.
