Fire restrictions take effect in the Tonto National Forest, the Prescott National Forest and Bureau of Land Management lands in the Phoenix District on May 22 as the dry winter, continuing drought and wind contribute to the high fire danger in the region. Target shooting will also be forbidden starting on May 22 since target shooting was the source of ignition for the Sunflower Fire, which scorched 17,000 acres in 2012 and cost more than $5 million to extinguish. Drought and the fire danger may lead to more stringent restrictions in the near future. KTAR 620 - Newsradio (Phoenix, Arizona), May 16, 2013
