Crops in the Coastal Bend needed moisture badly, while some fields had burned up entirely. Yield reductions were expected in the grain sorghum. Pastures were scorched, and the first cutting of hay was small. Local auctions were experiencing higher sales volumes, given the high cost of feed and its availability. Some producers were thinking about early weaning and culling livestock.
