In southern Malheur County, grasshoppers were “stripping whatever grass and other green vegetation managed to grow in this low water year.” The insects were devouring crops, pastures and grazing allotments. Area residents were looking to federal agencies to implement programs to control the grasshoppers. The insects may prevent growers from getting a second cutting of hay and were forcing the sale of livestock for lack of available feed. Ontario Argus Observer (Ore.), July 9, 2021
