The South Carolina Drought Response Committee changed the drought status from normal to incipient for 11 coastal counties. The 11 counties are Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Florence, Georgetown, Horry, Jasper, Marion and Williamsburg. Low streamflow conditions and below-normal topsoil and subsoil moisture were the primary factors leading to the drought declaration.
Wildfire occurrence has been higher than normal over the last two months, especially along the coast.
