The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors approved a water well permitting urgency ordinance on May 24 that expands the review process, in response to a drought-related state executive order.
The Board of Supervisors declared a local emergency due to the drought in July 2021. In March 2022, Gov. Gavin Newsom issued an executive order adding steps to local water well permitting review.
