The City of Caney has enough water to last through the end of 2023 at the present rate of consumption and the ongoing drought. The remaining water is being released from Timber Hill Lake. The city intends to consider enforcement regulations for water users who have chosen not to reduce their non-essential water use.

A water emergency is in effect for the town of Caney in Montgomery County. Water no longer flows over the dam, meaning that the community has the water that is behind the dam for its water supply, which should last about six weeks. The city clerk is looking for other water sources for the town.
