Continuing drought, in combination with record high prices for inputs and a steady increase for beef has made it more challenging for producers to keep costs down. Drought and lack of pasture grass have led more ranchers to purchase feed for cattle from outside the area. Transportation costs for getting grain from the Midwest add up quickly also. Ranchers were still culling cattle.
