Some of the wheat crop in Kansas is blue from lack of moisture. The plants would typically be knee-height at this time of year, but many were merely shin-high. Some plants were yellow. Many plants were too small and damaged to be worth harvesting. The spikelets that would normally contain kernels were pale and shriveled, and held no grain.
