This year has been Louisiana’s worst wildfire season in a century as fires, which were most intense from August through October, consumed 62,000 acres of mostly forestland and destroyed $71 million in timber, according to LSU AgCenter. The towns of Merryville, Pitkin and DeRidder were also threatened by the flames.
