Topsoil and subsoil moisture were reported as predominantly adequate to short in all North Texas counties. Pasture and rangelands were fair across all counties. Overnight temperatures were below freezing, with warmer temperatures during the day. Some areas received small amounts of rain. Winter pastures looked good, and additional rain was ideal for plantings that had emerged. Livestock were doing well and continue to graze when weather permitted. There were no disease or insect outbreaks reported. AgriLife Today (College Station, Texas), Nov 28, 2023 Topsoil and subsoil were reported as adequate to short in North Texas. Pasture and rangelands were reported as fair to very poor for most counties in the district. Heavy rainfall over the past week helped the crop tremendously. Winter pastures were starting to grow and looked good. Ryegrass and oats were growing well thanks to adequate moisture. Some ranchers started to feed hay because the fields were drying up. Summer crops were harvested. Winter wheat and other cool-season grasses were planted and emerged across some counties. Livestock were doing well. There was no disease or insect outbreak in the district. AgriLife Today (College Station, Texas), Nov 14, 2023 Pastures and rangelands in North Texas were reported as fair to poor from most counties. Subsoil and topsoil moisture levels were average, with few counties reporting very short or adequate moisture. Temperatures overnight ranged from the 30s to 50s and slowed the growth of vegetation and grasses. A few counties received rainfall, but most did not. Winter pasture planting continued. The ground was prepared for wheat, but few forage-use acres were planted. Hay harvest continued. No grain crops were planted. There were no significant insect or disease issues, and livestock were doing well. AgriLife Today (College Station, Texas), Oct 17, 2023 North Texas was very dry as temperatures continued to stay high. Topsoil moisture levels ranged from short to adequate. No wheat or oats were planted. All crops except cotton were harvested. Livestock conditions were fair to good. Pasture conditions improved in some counties, and pastures were still poor to fair due to drought. AgriLife Today (College Station, Texas), Oct 3, 2023
