A state of emergency was declared at the San Carlos Apache Tribe reservation due to drought. Cattle were dying from an absence of grass and water, so ranchers were hauling water, hay and nutrients to the livestock. Wells were being drilled to access more water. Acorn and pine trees were stressed by drought also.
