Corn was starting to turn brown and mature faster than usual, according to a senior agent with Virginia Cooperative Extension. Some loss of corn as well as soybeans can be expected, he noted.
Pastureland has been doing alright, but farmers may have to begin feeding hay if the dryness persists. Since most early apple and stone fruits were already off the trees, the dry weather did not affect them.
