AFFECTED AREAS:
Nueces County, TX
Corpus Christi, TX

Start Date: 10/6/2025 -
Athletic fields in Corpus Christi were brown and hard with large cracks. The city remained in stage 3 water restrictions, which prevented schools from watering their athletic fields. Some schools, and even Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi applied for exemptions to the watering restrictions but were denied. Athletic fields are costly if the grass dies and needs to be replaced. Artificial turf is expensive, too, and also requires some irrigation. Texas A&M’s turf soccer field developed a sinkhole from insufficient watering and cost more than $50,000 to repair.
