Water users in Decatur were asked to curb their water use until the drought eases. Rainfall for the Lake Decatur watershed and much of Central Illinois has been below normal since mid-August 2025, which has lowered the level of Lake Decatur to 2.4 feet below its normal level. Evaporation and the absence of rain continued to slowly deplete the lake.
Decatur was also getting water from alternative sources to supplement their supply. The 24 largest water users were being contacted by the city to see if conservation is possible.
