The South Carolina Drought Response Committee met on Tuesday, Oct. 7 to evaluate drought conditions. Five of the six counties in the Upper Savannah Basin--Abbeville, Anderson, McCormick, Oconee and Pickens—were kept in normal status. Edgefield County was upgraded to incipient drought due to persistent dryness. Beaufort County was changed from incipient drought to normal conditions. All other counties remained in incipient drought.
The dry conditions have reduced crop yields, delayed the planting of winter crops and hurt pasture conditions.
